Environmental Audits - Purpose and Method

River and Loch banks

Auditor should consider, where possible, a corridor extending to 25 metres in from each river/loch bank. Impacts on larger areas can be referred to in Section 4 below.

Condition of banks as to whether:

  • natural and undisturbed

  • modified, specifying the extent and type of modifications, including condition of built structures (photos useful here). Where it is possible, the position of these should be marked on a map. Vegetation modifications, intentional or not are also relevant here.

  • An estimate of the percentage of the river's banks that are "modified" would be useful. See table below for an example.
