COURSE ORGANISATION

As the Coaching Committee is ultimately responsible for all courses organised on its behalf, or leading to a Coaching Scheme Award, a course organiser must have their course approved. If you wish to organise a training course or assessment, you must seek approval from your RCO before running it. Advance notice of at least three weeks is required. * Star Test assessments do not require RCO approval. Check procedures for Coaching Course paperwork.

Transferring from L.3 Inland to L.3 Canoe or visa versa.
There have recently been a few enquiries to the coaching committee from L.3 inland coaches wanting to become L.3 canoe coaches. To ensure Scotland is in line with the rest of the U.K. the committee would like to clarify the state of play as it stands in the UK, including Scotland.
If you at present possess a level three coach award in inland kayak and hold a four star in canoe, you can go straight to your level three training without the level two canoe coach award. This works the same if you are a level three canoe coach and possess the inland four star, you can go straight for level three training in inland kayak.

Hopefully this clarifies when you can go forward to level three. Having said this it is the belief of many course providers that this process misses out some important grass routes teaching techniques specific for the craft, whether it be canoe or kayak. So the advice would be to still do the level 2 award for the increased learning, even though it is not essential. Doug Cooper – Coaching Committee Secretary.
