Access 2000. Issues relating to countryside access

Objectives

  • Produce an annual touring calendar to promote "touring for all" in its various forms.
  • Offer opportunities for touring paddlers to participate in trips throughout the entire calendar year.
  • Maintain a wide geographical spread of trips.
  • Seek to maintain to publicise widely the activities of touringDevelop and maintain the touring website
  • Maintain an information handout for visiting paddlers to Scotland in response to enquiries received
  • Maintain an awareness on environmentally sensitive issues for touring paddlers
  • Administer the touring award scheme
  • Provide support to touring paddlers by acting in the best interests of all paddlers touring in Scottish waters
  • Maintain and promote the pool of resources.

Targets

  • Provide a minimum of 30 self-financing tours each year. These tours to cover both sea and inland areas and to cater for both kayak and canoe paddlers of all standards. Tours to be available spanning January to December
  • Offer trips covering all areas of Scotland
  • a) prepare and submit an article for each edition of the paddler magazine reflecting on past touring activities and promoting future touring events
    b)Provide an informative display at the annual festival and other occasions as appropriate
  • Expand the content of the touring web area to include the calendar, tour reports, details of forthcoming touring events, links to other relevant organisations and provide general information for visiting paddlers
  • Ensure the handout continues to contain up to date information; updating as required to reflect relevant changes
  • a) Continue to communicate issues impinging on the environment
    b) Continue to distribute the leaflet - Sea kayaking - a guide to good environmental practice"
  • Continue to promote and administer the touring award scheme thereby recruiting 10 new members to the scheme each year
  • a) Promote links with clubs and other organisations e.g. Coastguard, Port Authorities, BCU.
    b) Disseminate information of current developments in Touring e.g. Safety issues
    c) Liaise with the national access officer on access issues involving touring paddlers d) monitor and act on impending/existing legislation proposals affecting touring paddlers
  • a) Continue to build a library of photographs which can then be used to promote all forms of touring at exhibitions etc
    b) continue to purchase relevant books and other archive material
    c) maintain a record of all tours contained in the annual Touring calendars

Activities and Projects

  • Identify and encourage potential trip organisers in order to maintain or increase the number of trips contained in the annual calendar.
  • Utilise the information technology expertise held by some members of the touring committee in order to expand the touring webpages to their full potential
  • Combine the knowledge and expertise of members of the coastguard canoe group with that of touring committee members to enhance the content of the information for "Visiting Paddlers to Scotland" handout
  • Publish articles in Paddler encouraging members to participate in the touring award scheme
  • Continue, and expand, the annual photographic competition to rapidly build up the library of photographs which can then be used in promoting touring
