SCA POLICY NOTICE

Duty of Care

At the Board of Management Meeting on 11 January 2001, the following policy statement was ratified. As per the Memorandum and Articles of our Association, all members must adhere to the ethics covered in the following statement. Further information and guidelines are available from the SCA Office for any interested party.

"Scottish Canoe Association Policy on Protecting Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults. This policy recognises that while we encourage vulnerable people including children and young people to participate in canoeing and kayaking, we must also provide safeguards which take reasonable steps to protect them from the possibility of harm, discrimination or degrading treatment.

The Scottish Canoe Association is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children, young people and vulnerable adults by protecting them from physical, sexual and emotional harm. Volunteers and staff should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the rights of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and their safety and welfare, and conduct themselves in a way that reflects our principles. Nationally recognised procedures regarding coaches, safety equipment and good practice should be adhered to at all times."
