Santa Cruz 2001 SURF World Championships

Tracy Stewart :2001World Champion High Performance Kayak Surf

Congratulations to Tracy Stewart, Neil Baxter and Tony Leaver who all performed exceptionally at the Surf World Champs at Santa Cruz California in March 2001. Tracy Won GOLD in High Performance Kayak.

Neil Baxter won Silver in the Blue Riband International Class Kayak, AND another Silver in the Master's International.
Tony Leaver, the current Scottish Champion, made the final and was 4th in International Men's Kayak, putting out many of the top Americans in the heats.

A World Champion for Scotland.  This is unprecedented in modern times.

Two Scots in a final of four is a major achievement and you can ask the top USA paddlers how they feel about this excellent result for Scotland.

It is to be hoped that this Major Medal Winning performance will justify some grant aid for the SCA Surf Committee's work and the individuals who brought home the metalwork on behalf of us all in the SCA.
