Douglas Water (Inverary)

Plans have been published for a proposed hydro scheme on the Douglas Water at Inveraray. The Douglas Water is a grade 4/5 spate run accessed by a 5km walk up a forest road. Details can be found on page 159 of the SCA guide book.

The developers, Innogy Hydro intend to build intake weirs across the river and two of its tributaries which will divert water via an underground tunnel to a power house 3km's downstream. This will be a 'run of the river' power scheme which will operate when there is sufficient water in the river and is anticipated it will generate approx 3.0 MW of power.

It is clear that this scheme will result in a loss of water resource, and the SCA have made a response (Word doc) detailing how this will affect paddlers.
