Access 2000. Issues relating to countryside access

Pattack

Last year the factor at Ardverikie said that they were considering plans for developing car parking at the bottom and running a shuttle service to the top of the river (with a small charge for the service). This was only an idea at that time, and no progress with it has
yet been made. In the mean time:

Please contact the Estate Office before you want to paddle. Phone, write or email telling them when you plan to visit, and if you ask them for access to the top of the river they will give you the combination for the locked gate on the Estate road. Then all you have to do is turn up and paddle (remembering the Canoeists Code of Conduct of course!). Do not leave cars on the road at the access point - parking space is very limited and the road is in constant use - a non-paddling driver would be ideal, or maybe someone willing to drop others off and walk up after parking at the take-out.

Access by the estate road might be denied if there are genuine reasons for this to be necessary, but they are quite 'paddler-friendly' and will help anyone making a polite and reasonable request. The road is no more than a dirt-track and in places is steep and heavily rutted. It can be very difficult when conditions are bad(eg snow or heavy rain).

Phone No for the estate office is 01528 544300.

There is a large tree blocking the lower reaches of the River Pattack along side the A86. This is downstream of the usual white water take out but would be a real hazard if you were planning an easier trip down to Loch Laggan.
