World Surf Kayakers.
Last week was good surf and great parties at the 2001 World Surf Kayak Championships.  Thanks to everyone who made it happen.    We were really lucky to have good weather and fun surf.  Today I walked down to Manresa beach and the ocean was almost completely flat.  It would have been difficult to hold a contest here this week.

I want to let you know what is going to happen as a result of the Sunday, March 11, 2001 meeting of world surf kayakers.  The following people agreed to work together as an advisory committee to develop a new organization called the World Surf Kayak Association.

The advisory committee decided to pattern the World Surf Kayak Association after the World Wave Ski Association, and elected 4 people to an executive committee to govern our new organization. The officers are:
Rick Starr – President
Neil Baxter – Vice President
Nigel Holland – Treasurer
Andy Wilson – Next World Contest Organizer

The Advisory Committee voted to select Ireland as the host of the next world championships. It will be held in September or October of 2003.  The committee then assigned the following tasks to develop an organization that fits the goals discussed at the world meeting.

Rick Starr – Coordinate group, work with Toca and Scott Eaton to create a constitution
Neil Baxter – Obtain funds for World Surf Kayak Association and next world championships, help find judges for 2003 worlds, help find sponsors to fund web site
Nigel Holland – Create web site and bulletin board, manage funds
Andy Wilson – Plan next world championships
Preston Holmes – Develop contest planning package
Toca Gonzalez – Develop a constitution, translate information into Spanish
Stuart McGlinchey – Create a booklet of rules that will be ratified by committee
Luis Abando – Provide ideas and advice from World Wave Ski Association

Please contact these people if you are willing to help develop this new World Surf Kayak Association.  Please also pass on this email to other interested surfers, and send me email addresses of other surfers.

Cheers, Rick Starr
