John Muir
Award Summer Programme for Young People - Cowal Peninsula
Sea Kayak 19-27 July
A fantastic journey along a remote stretch of Scotland's coast
line - join a small group of young people for an unforgettable
experience!
The Cowal
peninsula is named after Comgall one of the four chiefs of
the ancient kingdom of Dalriada. This beautiful area is made
up of great tongues of land, separated by magnificent sea
lochs, stretching south into the sound of Bute. We will start
at the head of Loch Striven and travel south into the Kyles
of Bute past the Burnt Islands and the Maids of Bute.
Heading
towards the Isle of Arran we will finish by paddling up Loch
Fyne to Otter Ferry.
We will camp at wild sites and (if we are lucky) we'll be
able to cook some fish we catch along the way. Although some
kayaking experience would be an advantage no previous experience
is necessary. We will undertake some conservation work during
the trip.
Cost £180.00;
open to anyone aged 16-26. Meeting Point: Dunoon Ferry Terminal.
Organised in partnership with Ardmay House Outdoor Education
Centre - www.ardmay.com
The John Muir Award is an environmental Award scheme focused
on wild places. It encourages the discovery and conservation
of wild places in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration.
The John Muir Award Programmes - Summer Programme and Discovery
Trips - are a key means of delivering the John Muir Award
scheme to individuals. We enable participants and volunteer
leaders to develop personally through an immersive experience
involving exploration and
