A party of 2 open canoes and 2 kayaks did Kenmore to Grantully. One canoe was solo (Prospector), the other canoe was tandem plus dog (Wenonah Spirit). Kayaks were Dagger redline and rpm max.

River level was at 3 1/2 on the gauge above Chinese Bridge and Boat Breaker rock on Tully was covered. River level dropped about 6 inches during the day.

Due mainly to the cold we were quite business like on the river, only the kayaks indulging a a little play. There were no dunkings but some of the standing waves were , well.....pretty damn big. Eddies were in short supply, but enough for the job.

The evidence of the floods a couple of weeks ago was pretty awesome. I would have liked to have seen it then, but NOT from a canoe! We passed one kayak which was mangled in tree, well above current river levels, and later picked up a bent kayak paddle. We did look for the paddler, but thankfully found nothing that was gruesome. The black plastic flapping in the breeze on an island did have us 'going' for a moment though. The crows wheeling about just above it fooled us.

A very satisfying trip in the biggest water that 3 of the party had paddled.

Oh, and nice to paddle tandem for a change. (thought I'd better say that, if only to ensuer that I keep the bow paddler sweet)

Very nice to meet Nicky and Tony on this trip.I think this was about the highest
I have ever run this stretch,it made for a fast descent and quite spectacular to
see the odd kayak and paddles jammed a few feet up in the trees.Makes you think.
