Over here in Scotland we dont have many openboaters to ask for advice on technique etc,So watching these guys paddle is a grest way to develop your own skills .

Hey Greytowel, it's been a while... I'll be heading over to Scotland from the frozen arctic for Xmas, so maybe we'll get a chance to hook up. Not much open canoeing being done in Quebec or NY state right now - you could drive across most of my spots right now, or at least skate across them. Still, some pretty spectacular bird life happening with lots of hawks and owls appearing - I'll send you some pics to your email.

Later

Hey there Quenyfreak
looking forward to seeing you and Jen .We were out paddling today went down the Teith it wasnt much warmer than where you are in Canada. Dougie spotted two Penguins up a tree hows that for a sighting just because youve got Sharpshined Hawks and Snowy owls in your garden dont think we havent got our own rare birds !! . We met up with Tony paddling his Dagger Impulse, who we had met a few weeks ago with Nicky they are also interested in ornithology I hope we can all get out together before you go back over .Got a Dagger Legend which we will set up for you guys to paddle tandem hows that for service .
Catch you later Greytowel

hope you don't mind me adding to your "private" conversation, but I saw you leaving the Teith yesterday, and then I guess it was you at the Mclaren ,getting heated up! Where did you put in on the Teith? I have only done flatwater, but I would like to try some placid moving water, and wonder if the Teith would be a good place to start; I suppose it will depend on the type of weather we are having.
thanks

Hi there Alastair
Your right that was us .If you are going with mates and have a few ropes handy I would recommend the Teith but not yourself there are a few technical bits remembering it is GRADED AT 2 long swims ,we started at Calander car park on Sunday, the other get in point is up at the loch but a wee bit more technical .Other rivers in the area are The Balvag and the Devon in Clackmannashire both ideal for learning eddy turns , ferries , and backwater strokes.
If your stuck for Partners give us a shout via the forum ,what do you paddle at the moment Alastair . Cheers Greytowel.
