Useful Contacts for Reporting Damage to Rivers.

If you are suspicious about action in a river which may be cause damage:

1) Contact SEPA's emergency line on 0800 807060.

2) On candidate conservation rivers eg Tay, Dee, Spey contact local planning. These rivers legally require permission for development operations, these will then be evaluated for environmental impact. However "routine" agricultural operations like taking gravel from
above river water level or clearing ditches becomes a grey area of general permitted operations. As the candidate conservation status of these rivers changes to designated then the range of permitted oprations will probably be tightened up and especially with the Water Framework Directive.

For Perth and Kinross council, the Enforcement Officer is Alistair Paul (01738 475000).

For Stanley the Planning officer is John Culbert (01738 475353)

Finally if there is suspected damage to a protected species e.g freshwater mussels, contact the local Police Wild Life & Environment officer, for Stanley this is Alan Stewart (01738 892650 or mobile 07808 899 113)
