Lerwick Harbour

The Harbour Master tried to place strong restrictions on paddling the Sound of Bressay and citing recent changes in the marine safety code.

The passage between the island of Bressy and main town Lerwick has been regularly used by paddlers for some years, and they have not routinely informed the Port Authority of their activities.

It seemed that things had changed as Lerwick Port authority tried to insist that paddlers refrain from canoeing in the harbour waters until there was a clear set of procedures. The harbour master requested that paddlers should tell the port control every time they go on the water in the harbour limits, where they were going and let them know when they came ashore. However after discussion with the SCA the Port Authority has agreed that there is no need for experienced paddlers to notify them of their movements
